On Wenlock Edge the sun is shining,
Our picnic graced by his warm kiss;
Beside me on the grass reclining
My partner in connubial bliss.
Such golden days have touched this valley
Since long before the Romans came;
I listen to our children rally
And race around in youthful game.
Ah, happy days of simple pleasure,
A family picnic, rest and fun;
I know they'll praise in equal measure
These social joys when we are gone.
The sun that lights our generation
Will help the next one cheer and whoop
And future summers' exultation
Bless every happy, homely group.
