Dublin pigeons dodge the feet
that saunter down O’Connell Street
and peck at real or fancied specks
with bobbing heads on rubber necks.
A wayward crisp or misplaced nut
will not be crumbled underfoot
but disappear from well-trod ground
wherever pigeons are around.
The Council will not pay them seeds
for solving our hygienic needs
but, rather, brand them ‘feathered rats’
that spoil our human habitats.
Meanwhile, they clean the paths for free
while we meander messily.
