One thing in certainty I say:
I know that I’ll outlast this day.
Presumptuous, boastful, smug, and more,
But back me – I’ve never died before.
And just a tick – it starts to dawn –
If I can say this every morn,
I’ll push beyond all known endeavour
And be the first to live forever.
And, self-deluding as it seems,
Don’t we each engage in dreams
That we’re too rare, too full of treasure,
To pass on, to eternal leisure?
That mystery? That void? Don’t flap!
Death’s what happens to the other chap.
