I think that I shall never see
The Next Big Thing – it won’t be me,
For fame and fortune don’t beguile
And smaller better suits my style.

I am not Hamlet, nor was meant
To be – I understand this bent.
I need not play in any age
The cynosure at center stage.

Ambition I have kept in line –
Supporting roles will do just fine.
A Chorus or a walk-on part
Is really closer to my heart.

What’s that you say? I’ve given up
And cannot hope to drain the cup
Of life, topped off for those who strive
To hit the heights while they’re alive?

All glitter is not gold, my friends,
And this is where the story bends –
So many stars have short careers
But I’ll get work for years and years.
