With a good night’s sleep who knows what I might do?
I had such great ambitions long ago.
But now I cannot sleep the whole night through.

At uni, when I worked, time simply flew,
I flirted, partied, loved all learning so.
With a good night’s sleep who knows what I might do?.

I married, did some teaching, planned anew,
Had children, and then proudly helped them grow.
But now I cannot sleep the whole night through.

The children left. I thought it was my cue,
Published some writings, but not much to show.
With a good night’s sleep who knows what I might do?

I travelled widely, searching for a clue.
None found! Stayed home, awaiting light bulb glow.
But now I cannot sleep the whole night through.

I’ve hoped and worked and planned and not been blue,
These days, it seems, the sand is running low.
With a good night’s sleep who knows what I might do?
But now I cannot sleep the whole night through.
