The cat in the jeweller’s window
lies as still as snow
above an emerald necklace.
Jewels cast their glow
against her side. People drop in
to ask, “Do you not know
there’s a cat in your window?” Yes.
“Is it for sale?” Oh no.
She’s there to catch your eyes.
If they were selling row
on row of Russian dolls
or sandwiches to go,
she’d still be there all day,
watching the traffic flow
outside a jeweller’s window
where a cat falls like snow.
