Though wads of green might give us thrills,
our money’s mostly not in bills.
They are totemic, but our stash
is now quite rarely kept as cash.
 
Today it's in electrons, queasy
idea, and it’s not so easy
to comprehend and thus relate
to currency's pure abstract state.
 
Yes, money is just coined on trust,
and, absent faith, we'd all go bust.
You can't make rent or buy a fruit
unless you have official loot.
 
Such comfort in fat bank accounts –
digits galore, profuse amounts!
On dreary nights, they ward off dread.
Show me the bucks, the dough, the bread!
