Like many dads I must confess,
I see no need to get a dress
Just because they hold a ball.
I can’t relate to that at all.
It’s not like when they hold a dance,
I feel I should acquire new pants.
And as a dad, from my perspective,
Such dresses just aren’t cost-effective,
And also, why should we besmirch,
That lovely dress she wears to church?

On my daughter’s phone I see her google:
“Why must my father be so frugal?”
There she goes. She’s off with mom
To get another one for prom,
And when she comes out wearing it
I check the price tag, frown a bit.
My wife frowns back and I have lost:
“A steal at over twice the cost!”
It’s dirty pool and just not nice,
To hint she wear the same dress twice.

Her date arrives and she steps out,
I must admit, without a doubt,
This rather pricey dress I bought her,
Looks very pretty on my daughter,
And though I am not quite recanting
my views, I’ll say she looks enchanting.
I’m not the only one, I fear,
Now hey ther, buddy, eyes up here.
She’s more beautiful than I can say,
Well, who needs money anyway?
