Northanger Abbey

Young Cathy is taken to Bath
where Supervic crosses her path.
   Though his father turns crabby
   when she stays at the abbey,
they’re a cinch for the next Home and Hearth.

Sense and Sensibility

Two sisters: one cool and one hot.
Yet both of them suffer a lot.
   Still, Love finds a way,
   so they end up okay,
having learnt who is sound and who’s not.

Pride and Prejudice

Five daughters, no sons: what a pain!
Mary’s at the piano – again;
   Kitty suffers from cough
   and Lyd buggers off . . .
Thank goodness for Lizzy and Jane!

Mansfield Park

The chosen play’s more than a lark;
the Crawfords engage with the dark;
   but Fanny is steady
   and so (just) is Eddy,
and the two will be left Mansfield Park.

Emma

Yes, Emma’s ‘a right little miss’.
No, Elton and she do not kiss.
   Yes, ‘Knightley’s a mensch’.
   No, Frank isn’t French.
I’m sorry, there’s no one called Chris.

Persuasion

The heroine’s called ‘only Anne’.
She, years ago, gave up her man.
   We see how she’s hurting,
   when watching him flirting
till, in Bath, it is catch-as-catch-can.
