Before the War, and after for a while,
United Kingdom double-decker bus
Saloons lacked doors for passengers: their style,
For ease of travel, rated A++.
Rear platforms were so open, you could hop
Up on or off at all locations: I
So seldom used a designated stop
To board or disembark in years gone by . . .
Roll forward to today: my bus is at
A standstill at my destination, yet
The doors stay locked until a bus stop that
Is half a mile a way. My wish to get
Off here just fuels bus frustration – or
Nostalgia for the doorless days of yore!
