If I had the attributes of mine,
of the Roman Antonius line,
I would be flourishing or priceless
or highly praiseworthy, so viceless!
As they say, there’s many a slip
‘twixt the cup and the lip.
It’s thought that the flourishing attribute
comes from Anthos in Greek. No dispute
there, but if I don’t flourish soon, I’ll go
to seed flowerless, and no one will know
who I was. I shall never achieve any fame.
Perhaps I ought to rely on my other name,
Samuel, which means “God has heard.”
But if He has, He’s given me the bird.
