. . . is constantly torn between the populist enchantment of light verse and the sober compulsion of the serious poem. He has had more success in the latter (published in New Writing Scotland, Poetry News and Poetry Scotland, winner of the 2008 National Galleries of Scotland writing competition), but takes more pleasure from the former Roger McGough having once said to him 'So, you're a poet then?', which could be taken in a number of ways . . .
