Leo Vincent: Relocation, Relocation

When I owned Number Twenty
I heard a wise man say,
Give crowns and pounds and guineas
     But not your house away.
Give pearls away and rubies
     But keep your freehold free.
But I was young and much in love.
No use to talk to me.

 When she moved into Twenty
      I heard him say again,
Joint occupancy of your house
Will some day bring you pain.
The Court will give her plenty,
There’ll be nothing you can do.
Now she’s got Number Twenty
     And the weekend cottage too.
