The powers-that-be possess the gift
Of ceaselessly deriding thrift
But those who rode the boom with glee
Have failed to read their History.
They doled out credit unabashed,
Then found the housing market crashed.
With bonus brash they took the Michael
Heedless of the business cycle.
Respect for fiscal rules was token
So now the banking system's broken.
They wish the good old days were back
When some accounts were in the black,
Back in the familiar rut
When speculators took their cut
And mocked the average salary
From limo-chauffeured luxury.
Fawning, this self serving band
Now turn to us with cap in hand.
Why should we let them out on bail?
The foolhardy deserve to fail.
