Liza McAlister Williams: Little Tree

The little tree with upswept limbs
in animated posture
conducts the symphony of winds
that plays across the pasture.
It asks the mere necessities
of air and soil and moisture
enjoying sun or rain or snow
and thriving on the mixture.
Cheerfully it adorns the hill
in every season’s vesture
and compensates for lack of size
by operatic gesture.
