Michael Swan: A Dream Of Strange Women

Some had more arms than is usual.
There were several with fish tails and antennae.
Three, wearing top hats and morning suits,
were driving a combine harvester
up the nave of Salisbury Cathedral.
A platoon of large ladies with pink Kalashnikovs
was marching round the Market Square
led by a small girl with a pitchfork
singing 'Jerusalem'.
There was one dressed as a dictionary,
and others who defy description.

The general attitude was critical
verging on hostile.

Waking up
to a dull day
I thought
"Things could be worse."
