For two weeks long I’ve been the only soap,
But now I see another bar upon
The tile, and I am left with just the hope
This shower will not end until I’m gone.
I little thought when I was young and square
How soon my life would quickly wash away . . .
I’m but a faded sliver, barely there—
A wispy phantom on my final day.
And looking back on every soapy shower,
Recalling all the grime that I’ve scrubbed here,
Confirms that this must be my final hour—
For nothing lasts, and now my time is near.
At last I leave this world of joy and pain
As remnants of my life wash down the drain.
