Barbara Lydecker Crane: Puffinurkey

A flyer of the North Atlantic,
this hybrid bird appears quite antic.
A courting male performs a frantic

dance of jumping up and down –
looking like a half-dressed clown,
with puffin head and plain, dark brown

on down to bright red webs of feet.
Razor beaks can make mincemeat
of creatures that attempt to eat

a leg or breast of Puffinurkey.
He might look playful, cute and quirky,
but he is tough, this almost-turkey.

Puffin-like bird. Paer coage.
