I have a Velcro mind, the sort where stuff
sticks for no reason, simply tackiness.
No order, no real pattern, just the fluff
and linty scraps of life’s confusing mess.

Tonic sol fa, the Muses, Beaufort’s scale,
John Milton’s dates, ditto Crimean War,
the Latin names for woodlouse, minke whale:
all details Google is intended for.

What use are such assembled odds and ends;
the capitals of Kyrgyzstan and Chad?
Who needs to know at 3, as sleep descends,
the brawling dynasties of Hyderabad?

Being old and grey, my praise is rarely sung
but recall’s one way to impress the young.
