Ellen Dooling Reynard: Why Do We Dance This Dance?

You lead me
where you want me to go
by walking in front of me,
your pace a little slower than mine.
I have to be careful not to
bump into you.

Why do we dance this dance?

When you are sure
I am going to give you
what you want,
you walk in front of me
a little faster now
but check with quick glances
over your shoulder to be sure
I am still behind you.

Why do we dance this dance?

Because you are a cat,
and I, your obedient human.
