Dear Lord, protect my pleading ears.
The killer sound that rock drill's making
Is rattling through my grandpa's jaws,
And I can see the walls are shaking!
No peace at lunch – my trembling spoon
Spatters the warm stew everywhere.
The noise has terrorized my cat;
She's scampered to her secret lair.
Dear Lord, shield me this afternoon
When I attempt to take a nap,
For if the ceiling falls on me,
I'll wake directly on your lap.
