Much has happened, sad, sombre or senseless, since the September 2022 issue several moons or PMs ago, but, despite all, here comes the bumper winter edition of LUPO, its 60th, full of seasonal browsing and sluicing, cats, cows, octopi or octopuses, penguins, pigeons, turtles, wasps and whales. Amongst the human cast are bananaphiles, brass-rubbers, celebrities, curtain-twitchers, cyclists, green knights, pie-eaters, technical experimenters (spot the vardhaku anyone?) toad-lickers, wallflowers, Zoomers and many more. Excursions to domestic, foreign or semi-foreign parts include the Cotswolds, New York and Scotland, with thoughts on kilts and an account of a trip there that should give a boost to the independence cause.
Contributing at varying lengths in the three regular Intervals and one special Interval are Felicia Nimue Ackerman, Damian Balassone, Bruce Bennett, Jerome Betts, Chris Bullard, Michael R. Burch, Pat D'Amico, Martin Elster, Daniel Galef, David Galef, Max Gutmann, Robin Helweg-Larsen, Talbot Hook, Bill Holloway, Will Ingrams, Steven Kent, Philip Kitcher, Brian S. Lee, Bruce McGuffin, L.A. Mereoie, Rumi Morkin, Chris O' Carroll, Martin Parker, Paul Van Peenen, James Penha, Alexander Pepple, Tony Peyser, Margaret Owen Ruckert, Eileen Ivey Sirota, J. R. Solonche, Michael Swan, Tom Vaughan, Peggy Verrall, Wendy Videlock, Gail White and Russel Winick.
Hoping for a mild winter to lower the fuel bills come the multi-garmented and muffled winners of Competition 59 in the shivering shapes of Ken Chester, Martin Elster, Stephen Gold, Will Ingrams, Steven Kent, Mike Mesterton-Gibbons, Michael Swan, Peggy Verrall and John Wood.
The new names to welcome into the LUPO stable this issue include Bruce Bennett, David Blumenfeld, Chris Bullard, Helga Gruendler-Schierloh, Talbot Hook, Moray McGowan, Paul Van Peenen, James Penha, Harry Ricketts, J. R. Solonche, and Tim Taylor.
And so, with thanks to Ana Sanchez Hijosa for her Christmas cats, best wishes for 2023 to all LUPO’s contributors and readers old and new.
