A little dancer tiptoes on her lawn.
In kitchens, other girls and moms look on.
The dancer leaps and lands on her caboose.
One mom jumps up, serves sandwiches and juice.
Next kid attempts a not-so-grand plié.
Mom 2 squats deeply, putting pots away.
Another girl sashays, confused, and stops …
With speedy sideways strokes, Mom 3 dry-mops . . .
. . . performs a half-arched, wobbly arabesque . . .
. . . curves gracefully a moment by her desk . . .
. . . before she drops into a painful split.
. . . then turns to bake and boil, no time to sit.
The dancers bow. They clap for all the others.
Some day (who knows?) they might applaud their mothers.
