Think of people who must face
   prejudice against their race,
must hear taunts, and gibes, demeaning names they’re called:
there are many far worse fates than being bald.

Or the women who each day
   figure as the workplace prey,
propositioned, pressured, harassed, groped, and mauled:
there are many far worse fates than being bald.

Or the workers who must grind,
   underpaid and undermined,
aspirations shattered, all their prospects stalled:
there are many far worse fates than being bald.

But when you’re twenty-one
and your top’s already thin,
and you hanker after fun,
hot to swallow sweets of sin,
    it is easy to despair.
How you wish you had your share
of abundant crops of hair!
