Many are well-endowed when born, but you
lived without any until nearly two,
and then the softest mop of gleaming blonde
stayed with you through your childhood and beyond.
Years later, and shades darker, photos show
the length of fashion when you let it grow
too near your shoulders and with curling ends.
I search for records of succeeding trends:
there surely was a short and spiky time,
then, with retreating of the forehead line
the thinning strands where brown gave place to grey
styled in a business-like and sleeker way.
I recognise the current style though you
will scarce remember it; I'm happy too
that nature kindly chose to replicate
what she first made: this shining, hairless pate.
