Getting there and getting safely back,
In tunnels deep beneath the dipping downs,
Past rampant fields and dormitory towns,
Their engines chuff amenably along,
Their couplings meek, their imprecations strong.
Through steamy scenes that need no expurgation
Desire returns unruffled to its station;
All passion spent, the passengers disperse
And take their rubbish with them, with a curse.
