No resolutions? I think it is too late.
Five months have passed since Auld Lang Syne.
Those worthy promises will have to wait.

While in the long term, such resolve is great,
I now intend to buck the party line –
for resolutions, it’s a tad too late.

Yes, “summer’s lease hath all too short a date”.
Why should its fleeting pleasures not be mine?
Those worthy promises will have to wait.

Cancel the health club sub!  Pile high my plate
with sinful calories!  Pour out more wine!
For resolutions, it is far too late.

Though some no doubt will say I seem to skate
on dangerously thin ice, I still incline
to think it promises to bear my weight.

Next year I’m sure I can resuscitate
those stern resolves. Yes, next year will be fine . . .
unless, of course, by then it’s me who’s late.
In which case, promises will wait and wait.
