They found a way to engineer it out:
That cluster of transmitters in the brain
That activate to make you stamp and shout
And cause yourself and one another pain
Because you need to see opponents cower
And make them do exactly as they’re told.
No wolves, but only sheep within the fold.
It had its little side effects, of course.
The sex drive, as expected, was diminished;
But deaths reduced as well, from stopping wars,
So overall the race was far from finished.
The shrinking population was a help
With global re-resourcing; much less heat,
And food abundant, if you fed on kelp
(For only wolfish minds insist on meat).
Less people, so less government; besides
They didn’t have the heart for making rules,
And settled for a few advisory guides.
With every day a peaceful Feast of Fools,
Lethargic anarchy became the law;
And though there yet remained some petty crime,
The impulses to hunt for something more
Than what one had grew weaker over time.
And luckily this bloodless revolution
Took place when other species on the planet
Were still too far behind in evolution
To challenge these now docile folk who ran it.
And so, with every principle agreed on
And every bit of land a common ground,
The Earth has now become a tranquil Eden
Where happiness and peace of mind abound.
So please don’t think of it as an invasion
(Though when we land we’ll take some laser guns);
In this case, just the gentlest of persuasion
Will add another system to our suns.
. . . And next we have a virtual demonstration
Of Earth when reformation is complete,
Including the idyllic reservation
On which we’ll breed the Earthlings for their meat.
